In partnership with local, regional, and provincial organizations, the Village of Valemount supports economic development through creating the right conditions for business attraction and retention.

Valemount Resort Development Strategy

Valemount is one of the 14 municipalities included in a funding program called the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI). Establishing a Resort Development Strategy (RDS) to identify how funds will be used is a requirement of the program. Proponents with project proposals for the 2025-2027 RDS, please click the links for the Proponent Sheet and the RMI Proposal Form  to assist with the application process. Business Recovery 

Traffic through the community is critical to a healthy local economy. The Village of Valemount and Tourism Valemount surveyed local businesses to collect information on the magnitude of the Impacts to Business of the Closures of Highway 16 and Highway 93 following the Jasper Wildfire Complex of 2024. The results of this survey have been compiled in the following report, please click here.

Economic Recovery Supports:

    Government of Canada: The Work Sharing Program initiative helps businesses avoid layoffs during slowdowns by allowing employees to share available work through work share agreements. With a work share agreement employees work reduced hours, but Employment Insurance benefits compensate employees for a portion of their lost wages.

    StrongerBC Future Skills Grant: The StrongerBC future skills grant empowers British Columbians to shape their own futures. The grant covers up to $3,500 for eligible short-term skills training at public post-secondary institutions.
