Bylaw EnforcementVillage Bylaw Enforcement is centered on compliance and begins with education to the public. Generally, the Village responds to complaints from the public when the situation cannot be worked out amicably.
If you have a complaint involving a bylaw issue, you may contact the Village Office to file a complaint, or you may fill out the form found below. Village staff will review the complaint and seek to address the issue with the focus being on gaining compliance.
Please note that the identity of people who issue Bylaw complaints is protected and is will not be divulged to the person connected with the contravention that the complaint has been registered against.
Bylaw Enforcement and Dispute Adjudication
The Bylaw Adjudication system allows local governments to manage most bylaw violations at the local level rather than through the provincial court system. Residents who receive a Bylaw Violation Notice have the opportunity to dispute violations out of court via an independent adjudicator who will hear all disputes. For more information, please see Village of Valemount Enforcement & Adjudication Bylaw No. 698, as amended above.
Municipal Ticket Information System
Some municipal bylaws are enforced through a municipal ticketing system. In this case, there is no process for dispute or adjudication. Unpaid tickets are pursued through the Provincial Court System. For more information about which bylaws are enforced through the MTI system, please see Village of Valemount Municipal Ticket Information By-law No. 641, 2009, as amended above.
