Certified Wastewater Utility Operator

The Village of Valemount is seeking applications for a Certified Wastewater Utility Operator Level 2. The Operator will report to the Superintendent of Public Works and will primarily be responsible for maintenance and monitoring of the municipal wastewater system as well as assisting with the water system. Other duties will include operating power tools and heavy equipment common to a Public Works department. This position is full-time (40 hours week) and will require some weekend coverage and response to emergency call-outs.


Compensation:
$29.00 - $35.00/hour range, plus benefits (dependent on qualifications)

Qualifications:
• Completion of at least three (3) full years Municipal Works experience;
• Experience with SCADA and related computer applications;
• Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment;
• Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour;
• Good working knowledge of work-related WCB Regulations;
• Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions;
• Ability to work effectively with co-workers and the Public;
• Must be fully vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccination

Education:
• Valid EOCP certification as a Level 2 Wastewater Treatment or Collection Operator. Consideration will be given to Level 1 operators who are committed to obtaining their Level 2 certification;
• Completion of Grade 12 or GED diploma;
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with Air Brakes endorsement;
• Occupational First Aid;
• Confined Space and Entry;
• Ground Disturbance;
• Upgrading Certification required as legislation and regulations are amended

General Duties:
• Ability to identify problems and implement solutions with the wastewater system;
• Recording meter readings;
• Daily inspection of equipment;
• Assist other employees with their duties including, but not limited to, grounds maintenance, gardening, water and sewer line digging and pipe laying, pavement laying and repair; drainage ditch maintenance, road marking, raking and shoveling;
• Operate power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, tamper, sole plate packer, lawn mower, snow blower, cement mixer, saws, drills, etc.;
• Assist with assembly, removal and adjustment of attachments to various pieces of equipment;
• Collect garbage and other debris;
• Drive light duty vehicles;
• Perform sign maintenance and road marking, repair pavement defects, build minor infrastructure;
• Operation of snow removal equipment, street sweeper, backhoe and grader;
• Additional duties as determined by the Superintendent of Public Works

Visitor Information Centre Counsellors

The Village of Valemount is seeking applications for Full-time and Part-time Visitor Information Centre Counsellors. Reporting to the Visitor Information Centre Coordinator, Counsellors identify a visitor’s needs, offer information and provide services.

• Identify information needs in support of visitor requests and encourage longer stays and return visits.
• Provide accurate information to visitors regarding information on destinations, transportation, accommodation, etc.
• Assist visitors by phone, email and in person.
• Assist individuals or groups to organize vacation/travel plans.
• Promote and sell tourism products and services.
• Make accommodation reservations and activity bookings.
• Distribute promotional materials and update as necessary.
• Gather and record statistical information related to each visitor party.
• Post current information of interest to visitors such as Tourist Alert, road, ski and weather reports.
• Receive, stock and sell retail merchandise and handle cash transactions.
• Cash out and balance cash out report, and complete inventory.
• Maintain brochure racks and ensure adequate inventory is always on hand.
• Gather information and develop new resources.
• Work well in a team atmosphere and independently.
• Clean washrooms and clean/organize the centre as needed and in accordance to Covid 19 cleaning protocols.
• Work weekends as part of schedule.

Qualifications:
• Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and demonstrate initiative.
• Ability to work well as a team or independently.
• Have excellent knowledge of the local area and tourism opportunities within the local community and throughout British Columbia.

Public Works Labourers

The Village of Valemount is seeking applications for the following position:

Seasonal Public Works Labourer

General Duties will include:
  • Heavy manual labour including, but not limited to pick and shovel work, brush clearing, moving materials, concrete work, jack hammering, etc.;
  • Assisting other employees with their duties including, but not limited to, grounds maintenance, gardening, water and sewer line digging and pipe laying, pavement laying and repair, drainage ditch maintenance, road marking, raking and shoveling;
  • Operating power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, tamper, sole plate packer, lawn mower, weed eater, snow blower, cement mixer, tar bucket, steam cleaner, jackhammer, sander, circular saws, drills, as well as chainsaws and hand tools;
  • Assisting with assembly, removal and adjustment of attachments to various pieces of equipment;
  • Collecting garbage and other debris as necessary from Village Parks, streets, downtown area, Village Office and all other areas as deemed necessary by the Superintendent of Public Works;
  • Driving light duty vehicles i.e. pickups, as required;
  • Performing sign maintenance and road marking, repair pavement defects, build minor infrastructure such as catch basins and manholes, etc;
  • Flagging duties, as required;
  • Emergency call outs and shift if required;
  • Assisting with recording Water and Waste Water Meter Readings;
  • Assisting with Water or Sewer Distribution Checks;
  • Assisting with change out of meters, pumps, controls, and chlorine bottles;
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

Additional Duties:
  • Inspection of equipment daily for visible damage, for fluid and fuel requirements, electrical systems, tire checks, etc., and report any defects to the Public Works Superintendent;
  • Operation of snow removal equipment;
  • Operation of street sweeper.

Minimum requirements for the position include:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labour
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers and the public
  • Valid class 5 BC Driver’s License with clean drivers abstract

In addition, preference may be given to those with:
  • Sewer or water experience; and
  • Air Brakes Endorsement on their driver’s license.

Wage and Benefits:
  • Starting Wage: $23/hour
  • Benefits: 10% paid in lieu of benefits, as this is a temporary position
